Appellate Advocacy

Winning a verdict is not always the final or even the hardest step for a plaintiff in the litigation process.  Sometimes the real hurdle is convincing appellate judges to let injured victims keep the judgments the juries see fit to award them.  That’s why BFRG maintains one of the few appellate practice teams in a plaintiff’s law firm.

The BFRG Appellate Advocacy team in Jefferson City is one of the finest in the United States.  Led by a former Chief Justice of the Missouri Supreme Court, and staffed by senior attorneys who are former clerks of the Supreme Court, the BFRG Appellate Advocacy team has handled major appeals involving hundreds of millions in damages.

Law firms across the country regularly turn to our team of professionals when their cases are appealed.

The team is led by Chip Robertson, who prior to joining BFRG was the youngest Missouri State Supreme Court judge ever appointed.  He went on to be the youngest Chief Judge of Missouri’s Supreme Court.  After spending 12 years writing opinions on every aspect of civil and criminal law, speaking throughout the country on matters of litigation and jurisprudence, and distinguishing himself as one of the finest appellate judges in the United States, Chip left the bench to join BFRG.

Mary Winter and Tony DeWitt are the other members of BFRG’s Appellate Advocacy team.  They both were law clerks for Chip while he was on the Missouri Supreme Court and bring a wealth of experience in analyzing appellate issues and writing opinion memos.  With their proven expertise, talent and support, the BFRG Appellate Advocacy team has established a record of success recognized from coast to coast.
